Vancouver has become a top destination for Chinese tourists since its meteoric rise in wealth and desire for international travel. Tourism Vancouver (Tvan) continues its aggressive marketing strategies to attract new visitors every year and approached WPIC for a hi-octane social media push. Tvan’s chosen social media account on the Sina Weibo was revamped and strategies re-written.
Leveraging Tourism Vancouver and the popularity of Chinese celebrity WanTing Qu, WPIC was able to make considerable gains on various traffic channels. Tvan’s social media account quickly increased in followers from a few thousand to over twenty thousand, with multiple re-tweets per day, and top rank for all Sina searches related to Vancouver and Canadian Tourism.
The Weibo channel received over 20,000,000 clicks, hosted the #1 video related to “Vancouver” and was the #1 Weibo account related to “Vancouver” in China.
WPIC also developed the brand new mobile-optimized Tvan website: www.tourismvancouver.cn, which fed into the Weibo account and vice-versa. All in, the social media campaign elevated Vancouver as a top destination for the natural outdoors, prime dining and luxurious lifestyle.
